Business journey: design & marketing
2003
I left the green countryside of Shropshire for the vibrant city of Bristol to study illustration at the University West of England (UWE). It was here I learned that a good illustration tells a story; it visually represents an idea, conveys a message and can offer a visual accompaniment to text.
While I enjoyed my degree, it felt like there were limited career options after graduating and becoming a freelance illustrator was not for me.
Determined to do something creative, I stumbled into the world of marketing…
2007
Determined to do something creative, I stumbled into the world of marketing.
My first job was as a Marketing Assistant for an international publishing house, where I stayed for several years, moving around within the marketing and communications department.
My favourite position was that of Senior Communications Officer, where I had responsibility for the organisation’s website, making edits, writing and publishing news stories, and acting as the point of contact for a website migration (amongst other things, of course).
2017
I loved the website work I was doing and continued it into my marketing communications business, which I launched in 2017. Leaving the corporate world, its office politics and open-plan working was a life-changing milestone.
Building my own website from scratch was so satisfying, as was helping my clients with theirs. In providing outsourced support services to Marketing Consultants and Communications & PR Consultants, I was also taking care of a wide variety of digital marketing, comms and fundraising activities.
2021
Running my business continued to be the right fit for my personality, lifestyle and future goals. But as my business evolved, I needed to do so too. Despite working with some truly wonderful clients and fulfilling projects along the way, I needed something new and wanted a specialism.
So, I started trying things on for size and to have fun exploring new things (with a few wobbles along the way). I launched a podcast with a fellow freelancer (she’s still rocking it), explored specialising in surveys and market research, discovered Kajabi, and then fell head over heels for Squarespace and the world of website design.
Which brings me to where I am today…
Today
Now, I’m using my design knowledge and 15+ years of experience in marketing and communications to build Squarespace websites for brilliant business owners who see the world differently.
